What to Expect After Permanent Makeup: Your Healing Guide

Getting permanent makeup is exciting,  but let’s be real: the healing process can bring up a lot of questions. I get it. I’ve been there myself, and after working with over a thousand women across Toronto and the surrounding areas, I know this part of the journey is where nerves tend to show up.

So let me walk you through what to expect after your brows, lips, or eyeliner appointment at Bloom Beauty Studio. Think of this as your calm, clear guide to healing with confidence.

The PMU Healing Timeline (And What It Feels Like)

Days 1–3: It Looks Bold, and That’s Okay

Your fresh permanent makeup will look darker and more intense than expected. That’s normal. There may be some swelling or redness (especially after lips or eyeliner). You might think, "Oh no, this is too much!" Trust the process and follow my aftercare kit.

Tips:

  • Clean gently to remove lymph fluid

  • Apply the healing ointment I provide

  • Keep the area clean, dry, and makeup-free

Days 4–7: The Flaking Stage

This is when the scabbing or flaking begins. It can feel weird or itchy, but please don’t pick! Let the skin do its thing.

Tips:

  • Keep moisturizing gently with the provided ointment

  • Avoid sweating, steam, and sun

  • Continue to avoid makeup until all the flaking has finished.

Weeks 2–4: It Fades, Then Comes Back

After flaking, the pigment may look too light or even "gone" — don’t worry. It takes time for the colour to settle and re-emerge.

Tips:

  • Stay patient

  • Avoid harsh skin treatments such as chemical peels and lasers

Weeks 6–8: Time for a Touch-Up

This is when we perfect your results. I’ll assess what faded, how your skin held pigment, and adjust as needed. It's also your chance to ask more questions or try a slightly deeper tone if you want.

Real Talk: What My Clients Say

"I was nervous about the scabbing, but Anna explained everything so clearly, and it healed beautifully."

"The colour looked so dark at first, but once it softened, I was obsessed."

"I loved that I didn’t feel rushed, and Anna checked in during the healing. That made all the difference."

These kinds of comments are so common because healing can be emotional, especially when your face is involved. I’m here for that part, too.

FAQs: Healing Permanent Makeup

Q: When can I wear makeup again?
A: Around 7–10 days, once flaking stops and skin is closed.

Q: Can I go back to work right away?
A: Yes! Just expect a bolder look for a few days. Many of my clients go straight back to work the next day.

Q: What if it looks uneven after healing?
A: Totally normal. That’s what your touch-up is for. We make everything match and fine-tune it together.

Q: Is the healing different for brows, lips, and eyeliner?
A: Yes. Brows flake, lips swell and peel, and eyeliner feels tender but heals quickly. I’ll walk you through each one.
