Why Laser Removal and Correction Should Be Done with a Permanent Makeup Artist
At Bloom Beauty Studio, removal isn’t the finish line. It’s the first step toward results you actually love.
Laser tattoo removal can fade old brow or lip pigment, but the goal isn’t always full removal. Often, it’s fading just enough to soften the colour, improve the shape, and make room for better results.
Being both a laser technician and a permanent makeup artist, I will look at what you have now and what you want next, so removal is done with your future brows or lips in mind.
| Regular Laser Removal | Our Laser Removal & Correction |
|---|---|
| Focuses mainly on removing pigment | Focuses on fading old pigment so your brows or lips can be improved |
| May not consider your future results | Removal is planned with your future brows or lips in mind |
| Often treats permanent makeup like any other tattoo | Deep understanding of brow shape, lip colour, symmetry, skin, and PMU healing |
| Goal is usually “remove as much as possible” | Goal is to fade what’s needed for the best correction |
| You need to find a permanent makeup artist later | One place for removal, design, and natural-looking correction |
| Can feel clinical or rushed | Private, calm, one-on-one care |

Real stories, real experiences, real confidence. Delivered by Toronto’s top-rated permanent makeup studio.
Why You Need Removal Before Correction
Softer Colour
Covering old PMU without removal can make brows or lips look darker, heavier, or uneven in colour. Fading some of the old pigment first helps create a softer, more natural-looking result.
Better Shape
Old brow pigment can lock you into a shape that no longer suits your face. Old lip pigment can also affect the outline or symmetry of your new lip blush. Fading first creates more room for a softer, more flattering design.
More Natural-Looking Results
When too much old pigment is left behind, the new colour can look muddy, patchy, too bold, or overdone. Fading first gives us a cleaner base to work with.
More Possibilities
Removal opens up more possibilities for correction. Instead of working around old pigment, we can create a better plan for the brows or lips you actually want.
A Cleaner Correction
It’s easier to create beautiful results on a cleaner base. Fading old pigment first can help the final result look more balanced, polished, and natural.
Better Long-Term Outcome
A quick cover-up is not always the best fix. Sometimes taking the extra step first leads to brows or lips that look better now and age more beautifully over time.
Our Process
1 Consultation + PMU Assessment
We look at your old brows or lip blush, pigment colour, shape, skin, and desired result. You’ll talk about what you don’t like now and what you want your brows or lips to look like after. Not every client needs full removal. I will explain what likely needs to fade and how laser removal can help create a better result later.
2 Laser Procedure
The laser helps break down old unwanted brow or lip pigment so your body can naturally clear it over time.
3 Healing + Progress Check
Removal sessions are spread 6 weeks apart. Your skin needs time to heal and fade between sessions. I will reassess the remaining pigment and guide you on the next step.
4 Correction / New PMU
When your skin is ready, we can create your new brows or lip blush using the best technique, colour, and shape for your skin, old pigment, and desired result.
Care Instructions
To ensure a smooth procedure and optimal healed results,
please follow these guidelines.
Pre-care
-
3-4 weeks before: Please avoid tanning beds, self-tanner, and direct sun on the treatment area before your appointment.
Tanned or irritated skin can increase the risk of sensitivity and uneven healing.
-
Avoid retinol, exfoliating acids, peels, acne treatments, and harsh skincare around the brows or lips before your session.
-
Please let me know if you are:
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Taking photosensitive medication
Using Accutane
Have had recent injectables
Have any skin irritation, infection, cold sores, open wounds, or active breakouts near the treatment area
-
Results vary depending on the old pigment, depth, colour, age of the tattoo, skin type, area being treated, and how your body heals.
After-care
-
For the first 24 hours: Allow the skin to cool and breathe. Do not apply creams, lotions, oils, or ointments, as they may trap heat in the treated area.
-
Use the provided ice pack to gently cool the treated area. Wrap it in a clean tissue or cloth and apply it in short intervals. Do not place ice directly on the skin.
-
For 7 days: Stay away from direct sun, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and heavy workouts while the area is healing.
-
Laser works gradually. The pigment may look darker, lighter, warmer, cooler, or change tone before it continues to fade.
The area will be reassessed before planning the next step.
-
Once the skin is fully healed: Protect the treated area from sun exposure with SPF to support better healing and reduce the risk of pigment changes.

& Correction FAQs

-
Laser removal & correction is for old permanent makeup you no longer love, including microblading, nano brows, powder brows, brow tattoos, and lip blush. Laser is used to fade unwanted pigment, then I will help guide you toward softer, more natural-looking brows or lips that better suit your face.
-
Not always. Some clients need full removal, but many only need the old pigment faded enough to improve the shape, colour, or overall look. I will assess your brows or lips and explain what makes the most sense for your future result.
-
Sometimes you can, but not always. If the old pigment is too dark, too saturated, uneven, or the wrong shape or colour, adding more pigment can make the result look heavier, darker, muddy, or unnatural. Fading first can create a cleaner base.
-
It depends on the age, colour, depth, and type of pigment, as well as your skin and how your body heals. Some clients only need light fading, while others may need multiple sessions before correction is possible.
-
Laser is targeted at the old pigment in the skin, not your brow hair.
-
Yes, but wait about 24 hours before applying makeup to the treated area. Laser removal targets the pigment under the skin, and in most cases the skin is not intentionally opened during treatment. Waiting 24 hours helps give the area time to cool, calm down, and reduce the risk of irritation.
-
Most clients describe it as quick and tolerable. You may feel snapping, heat, or sensitivity during the treatment, but the session is usually very short.
-
You may have redness, swelling and tenderness as the area heals. The pigment may also look darker, lighter, warmer, cooler, or different in tone before it continues to fade. I will explain what is normal and how to care for the area.
-
Sessions are spread 6 weeks apart because your skin needs time to heal, and your body needs time to clear the pigment.
-
Once the skin is fully healed and enough pigment has faded, we can assess whether you are ready for new permanent makeup. Timing is different for every client, which is why progress checks are important.
-
In many cases, laser fading can help improve unwanted brow colour before new brows are created. The best approach depends on the pigment colour, how saturated it is, and how your skin responds.
-
In many cases, fading old lip pigment can help create a better base for a softer, more flattering lip blush result. I will assess the colour, saturation, skin, and lip tone before recommending the next step.
-
Often, yes. Laser fading can help soften old pigment and create more room to correct the shape. If the brows are very saturated or far outside your ideal shape, more than one session may be needed.
-
No. Laser removal & correction can be for microblading, nano brows, powder brows, ombre brows, combination brows, older eyebrow tattooing, and lip blush.
-
Yes. Many clients come to Bloom Beauty Studio because they had previous work done elsewhere and want a safer, more thoughtful path to fixing it.
-
Usually not. Laser removal is a gradual fading process. The goal is not always complete removal. Often, the goal is fading the old pigment enough so the area can be corrected beautifully.
-
At Bloom Beauty Studio, I am not only removing pigment, I am thinking about the result you want after.
As both a permanent makeup artist and laser technician, I understand brows, lips, shape, colour, skin, symmetry, and how to create natural-looking results after old pigment has faded.
